Discover the Craftsmanship Behind the Iconic Diadema Frame

In the world of handcrafted Japanese eyewear, TAYLOR WITH RESPECT stands out for its dedication to true “tailoring.” Their philosophy is simple: create eyewear that feels as refined as a perfectly tailored garment. Not flashy—just deeply, quietly well-made.

The Meaning of "Good Tailoring"

For TAYLOR WITH RESPECT, good tailoring is a feeling. It’s the moment you hold a pair of frames and instantly sense the quality behind every detail—its balance, its finish, its intention. This principle guides every design and every artisan partnership.

Committed to All Made in Japan, they collaborate closely with trusted craftspeople who share their standards. The “RESPECT” in their brand name is a tribute to everyone involved in the making process—from metalworkers to color artisans—each contributing their expertise to create eyewear built to last. They design pieces meant to stay close to you for years: timeless, reliable, and quietly elegant.

Diadema: The Iconic Model

A Modern Revival of the Classic Crown Panto

Among their collection, the Diadema stands as a signature model—one that has become synonymous with the brand.

Inspired by the 1940s French crown panto shape, they reimagined the vintage silhouette for modern faces. The rounded lower half brings softness, while the defined upper cut adds structure and presence. This blend creates a calm yet dignified look suitable for a wide range of styles.

Designed For Comfort and Expression

The slightly enlarged lens size creates a relaxed atmosphere, while the crisp corners on the upper line gently tighten the overall impression. It’s a balance of sophistication and friendliness—a frame that complements the wearer without overwhelming them.

The Diadema doesn’t just function as eyewear; it becomes part of your daily styling, enhancing your natural expression with ease.

The Art of Color: Hand-Dyed Gradation from Sabae, Fukui

Why No Two Frames Are Ever the Same

One of the defining features of the Diadema is its beautiful color gradation, produced by Biso Japan—an exceptional dyeing workshop in Sabae City, the heart of Japanese eyewear manufacturing.

Each frame undergoes slow, manual dyeing in heated barrels of red, blue, and yellow pigments. The final color is influenced by temperature, humidity, and even slight changes in the weather. Because no machine can detect these subtleties, artisans adjust the dipping time entirely by experience and intuition.

That’s why every gradation frame is unique—similar in tone, but never identical.

Extremely Limited Production

Gradation dyeing is one of the least efficient processes in eyewear production.Due to convection inside the dye barrel, only the very center can produce perfectly even color. As a result, only three frames can be dyed per batch.

As one craftsman says:

“If you can make 100 normal frames a day, you can only make about 10 gradation frames.”

This isn’t just a comment on difficulty—it’s the pride of a specialist who refuses to compromise quality for volume.

Unseen Tailoring: Precision That Protects the Lenses

Beyond its surface beauty, the Diadema incorporates a special metal-press technique designed to reduce stress on the lenses. This kind of unseen engineering reflects our core belief: never cut corners, even where no one can see.

The name Diadema—meaning “headband,” the origin of the crown—pays homage to the frame’s lineage and the history behind its iconic shape.

Experience True Japanese Tailoring in Eyewear

Whether you’re drawn to its history, the handcrafted gradation, or its refined silhouette, the TAYLOR WITH RESPECT Diadema represents the essence of Japanese eyewear: skill, subtlety, and care that endures.
